Passenger cars sales up by 24.86% in July at 3,24,671 units

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) The domestic passenger car sales registered a 24.86 per cent growth at 3,24,671 units for April-July, 2006, as compared to 2,60,025 units in the same period last year, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said today.

The production of passenger cars increased by 21.31 per cent to 3,97,396 units for the first four-months as compared to 3,27,600 units during the corresponding period last year.

Passenger cars exports registered a 17.19 per cent increase to 63,666 units in April-July, 2006, as against 54,329 units during the same period last year.

The automobile industry on a whole, registered a 19.35 per cent growth in production for the period of April-July, 2006, as compared to the same period last year, an industry body said.

Utility vehicle production grew by 5.73 per cent to 67,704 units in April-July, 2006 as compared to 64,035 units during the same period last year.

The sales of utility vehicles were up by 11.67 per cent at 64,269 units in April-July, 2006 as against 57,555 units during the four-month period last year.

Overall the production of two-wheeler grew by 17.78 per cent during April-July, 2006 over the same period last year.

Motorcycles posted 20.56 per cent growth in production to 2,061,972 units in April-July, 2006 as compared to 17,10,266 units in the corresponding period last fiscal.

Scooters registered an increase of 6.88 per cent at 2,93,645 units in April-July, 2006 as against 2,74,731 during the same period last year.

Mopeds grew by 1.2 per cent at 1,08,124 units in April-July, 2006 as compared to 1,06,749 units in April-July 2005.

The three-wheeler sales grew by 23.80 per cent to 1,25,808 units in April-July, 2006 as against 1,01,618 units in the same period last year.

The overall commercial vehicles segment grew by 40.76 per cent to 1,28,516 units in April-July, 2006 as against 91,302 units during the corresponding period last year.

Medium and heavy commercial vehicle's grew by 42.99 per cent to 76,416 units during the four-month period as against 53,441 units with the same period last fiscal.

Light commercial vehicles registered an increase of 37.61 per cent to 52,100 units in April-July, 2006 as compared to 37,861 units in the same period last year.

Thus, cumulative growth of overall passenger vehicles is 21.95 per cent at 4,12,648 units during April-July, 2006, compared to 3,38,388 units during the corresponding period last fiscal.

Passenger vehicles exports grew by 17.85 per cent to 65,630 units in April-July, 2006 as against 55,688 units during the same period of time last year.

The two-wheeler exports posted 34.08 per cent growth to 2,23,086 units in April-July, 2006 as compared to 1,66,383 units over the same period last year.

Commercial Vehicles registered an increase of 32.08 per cent to 14,427 in April-July, 2006, comparing to 10,923 in the same period last year.

Thus, overall automobile exports posted 33 per cent increase in April-July, 2006 over the same period last year.
