Miscreants set fire to houses of dalits in Gadag

Gadag, Aug 8 (UNI) Tension prevailed after a group of people belonging to a particular community allegedly set fire to the houses of some dalits at Halakere village in this district of Karnataka today.

Police said previous enmity between the two groups was the reason behind the act.

Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police, visited the village to take stock of the situation. Tight security had been provided in the village to avoid untoward incidents.

The situation in the village was stated to be peaceful and under control now.
