Kanpur, Aug 8 (UNI) Disappointed over not getting an audience with Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi during her visit to the industrial town here today, the anti-reservation brigade of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) will observe a 'protest day' on August 14.

The IIT-K students will wear black ribbons under the banner of ' Youth for Equality.' Organisation convenor for Uttar Pradesh Chandrashekhar accused the central government of being averse to talk with the IIT students, while it can hold parleys with terrorist and naxalite outfits.

On Saturday, IIT-K students were taken under custody, while forming an anti-quota human chain.

Meanwhile, section 144 had been imposed in the town in the wake of Ms Gandhi's 'Nav Nirman Rally' at the historic Phoolbagh Ground this evening.

Chanting anti-quota slogans, ' Youth for Equality ' activists had burnt effigy of Ms Gandhi in front of the court premises yesterday.

IIT-K students had sent a facsimile to the Congress chief, Union Minister of State for Home and senior Congressman Sri Prakash Jaiswal requesting for a meeting.

They maintain reservation was detrimental for higher education, and it would be opposed at every level.
