Home Minister empowered to grant parole: Kerala Govt

Kochi, Aug 8 (UNI) The Kerala government today filed an affidavit before the High Court reaffirming the power of the Home Minister to grant parole to convicts.

In an affidavit filed by Home Secretary Lissy Jacob, it has been submitted that no change is necessary in the existing rules which empowers the Home Minister and Cabinet to grant parole.

According to the government, the Justice V R Krishna Iyer committee, appointed to decide the guidelines for the grant of parole, also approved the power of the Home Minister and the government in this regard.

The court will consider the matter tomorrow.
