Foreign women team to paddle in Nehru Trophy Boat Race

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 8 (UNI) For the first time in the history of Nehru trophy boat race, a multi-national women's team will participate in the races.

The foreign women's team from Dubai arrived here on their way to Alappuzha to participate in the famous snake boat races on Punnamada lake scheduled on August 12.

Julie Amer, a British national, who led the team, said her team would practice for the next three days along with other team members from Kerala.

The foreign women's team representing the Alleppey Boat club would paddle along with other Kerala women in the ''Chellikkadan'' event.

She said her team was confident of winning the race and they would do their best. Ms Amer said, last year in Malaysia the team came second in a similar boat race.

The team consists of members from Germany, China, New Zealand, Jordan, England, Scotland and South Africa.

Earlier in June, Ms Amer was here and held discussions with the district collector who gave the clearance for their participation.
