Two arrested for stealing Internet telephony

New Delhi, Aug 7 (UNI) In an effort to crackdown on clandestine and illegal use of the internet through stolen internet telephony, Delhi Police have arrested two computer professionals who indulged in a fraud worth Rs 1.3 crore through stealing of internet telephony minutes in excess of Rs 3 crores.

26-year-old Hridhesh Sharma, a resident of Mayur Vihar, was arrested for stealing internet telephony from M/S Net 4 India, a company engaged in providing a range of internet-related services including internet telephony (by the name of 'Phonewala.com) and voice over IP network services, after the company lodged a complaint about theft, misappropriation and illegal usage of its allocated telephony time slots.

Also arrested was Manoj Jindal from Chandigarh, to whom Hridesh had made sales of internet telephony minutes.

Investigation revealed that Hridesh, after stealing cash cards with internet telephony worth Rs 3 crore, had, by creating fictitious email accounts, sold these prepaid cards to clints or customers of M/S Net 4 India.

He had, after stealing the prepaid cards, accessed a computer in the premises of M/S Net 4 in an unauthorised manner and copied the email containing the passwords of the various cash cards and forwarded the same to his email account.

From the e mails of Hridesh, the various e mail and files containing internet telephony cash cards and their passwords were discovered. Downloading of data from these files revealed that Hridesh had stolen prepaid internet telephony minutes in excess of Rs 3 crore.

Hridesh has a two year diploma from NIIT and a CCNA from CISCO while the other accused Manoj, a resident of Barnala in Punjab, holds a diploma in computer applications.
