Tajikistan President seeks Indian Investments
New Delhi, Aug 7: Visiting Tajakistan President Emomali S Rahmonov today made out a strong case for a closer engagement with India which will be a win-win situation for both the partners and identified investments in hydro power, coal mining, tourism and light industry as areas where Indians can invest in that country.
The other areas where Indians can set up units relate to food and agro-processing and construction materials and tourism.
Addressing an interactive business meeting organised jointly by FICCI, CII and ASSOCHAM, Mr Rahmonov said both Tajikistan and Indian government were eager to increase the volume of bilateral trade and towards this end, the inter-governmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation had been established.
The Commission, he said, should serve to lay down policy direction for cooperation, improvement of the investment climate, overcome the impediments and bring the business communities of the two countries closer.
"Our country offers a great opportunity for tourism and we are interested in establishing modern infrastructure. We are also rich in minerals and precious metals," the Tajikistan President said, inviting Indian industry to set up manufacturing facilities in his country.
Mr L K Malhotra, Chairman, FICCI India-Tajikistan Council, stated that efforts need to be focused on improvement of air travel between Tajikistan and India. The Tajik and Indian governments should make a joint effort to have direct flights between the two countries.
