Steve Waugh's wife undergoes brain surgery

Sydney, Aug 7 (UNI) Former Australian captain Steve Waugh's wife Lynette underwent surgery for a blood clot in her brain caused by a cerebral haemorrhage here.

The celebrated former skipper's wife, who was rushed to the hospital on Thursday last week, is now doing well and doctors are now trying to find out the cause of the haemorrhage.

''The haemorrhage was very serious and the blood clot was removed to expedite her recovery,'' Waugh said in a joint statement with the doctor who treated Lynette.

''She remains in hospital and is currently undergoing further investigation to find the cause of the haemorrhage. Her progress has been encouraging,'' the former Aussie captain added.

Earlier, Steve's twin brother Mark visited his sister-in-law and is reported to have said that the 38-year-old was recovering well.

''We've seen her, she's doing well,'' Mark reportedly said after visiting Lynette with his wife Kim at the Prince of Wales Hospital here.

A local television network, meanwhile, quoted Steve's father Roger Waugh as saying that Lynette was ''fighting'' well.

''She is fighting and fighting very well,'' Waugh senior is quoted to have said after the surgery which took place on Friday.

The couple has three children from their 15-year-old marriage after being together for 22 years. The two met while in high school and Lynette co-wrote a book with the former captain on their life together.

The 41-year-old has been Australia's most successful captain leading the World Champions in 57 Tests and winning 41 of them.
