SIMI to move SC over Tribunal 'legal' ban
New Delhi, Aug 7: Students' Islamic Movement of India today said it will move Supreme Court against the Tribunal decision which today held the ban imposed on it by the Centre as ''valid and legal'', counsel for SIMI Mobin Akhtar said.
The Tribunal constituted under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act held the ban, imposed on February 8 this year by the Centre through a notification, valid and lawful.
A report will also be sent to the Home Ministry, Justice B N Chaturvedi, who is heading the Tribunal said. The report was not pronounced in an open court.
''I was not given the copy of the judgement. The judge called me in his chamber and told me the decision...I am going to move the Supreme Court against the decision, once we have a perusal of the judgement,'' Mr Akhtar told UNI over phone.
SIMI had moved the Tribunal to challenge the ban and lift it within six months which ends today.
