Seven killed in gram panchayat poll
Hyderabad, Aug 7 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Director-General of Police (DGP) Swaranjit Sen today said seven people were killed and as many as 800 cases were registered during the recent three-phase gram panchayat elections for 2006.
Talking to newspersons here, he said though the elections were conducted during the so called Martyr's week of Maoists and a boycott call, the conduct was successful with minimum violence.
Mr Sen said as many as 11,360 persons were nabbed under various sections of CrPC before polls as preventive measure and 558 Non-Bailable Warrants were executed in a special drive before elections.
He said during the polls police had to open fire at many places.
