Sania static at 44th, Bhupathji drops to 24th in tennis rankings

New Delhi, Aug 7 (UNI) Despite the first round exit from the Acura Classic, Sania Mirza hangs on to her 44th place in the WTA Singles Rankings.

The Hyderabadi teen, who kicks off her JP Morgan Chase Open campaign with a first round battle with 16th seed Jelena Jankovic, remains static at 44th with 467 ranking points in her kitty.

Her US-based Fed Cup teammate Shikha Uberoi (150.25), however, slipped 13 places to 187, while Ankita Bhambri (56.25) too dropped three rungs to finish at 356, according to the latest rankings announced today.

Among others, Isha Lakhani (45.50) clings on to 386, while veteran Rushmi Chakravarthy (36.25) slipped a step to finish 439.

In men's doubles, Leander Paes is static at 24th, despite his and his Czech partner Martin Damm's first round defeat in the Legg Mason Classic.

His estranged partner Mahesh Bhupathi failed to arrest the slide and slipped two more rungs to 24th.
