Public Transport fare revision committee set up in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 7 (UNI) Delhi Government today set up a committee to suggest revised fares for the capital's shabby public service vehicles.

The seven member committee under Principal Secretary, Finance, would address various aspects of fare revision and submit its recommendations soon, an official spokesman said.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Fares of public transport vehicles have remained unchanged in the capital despite increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and CNG.

The cabinet also decided to hike financial assistance per student under the School Health Scheme and continue taking NGO support for it.

About 12 lakh students of government and government-aided schools would benefit from the decision, the spokesman said.

The cabinet decided to enhance financial assistance to NGOs from Rs 10 to Rs 30 per student per year to provide healthcare services to them, he said. Involvement of NGOs in the scheme, approved in 2002 upto 2004-05, also had been extended.

Regular check-up, immunisation, OPD services and emergency treatment, referral and follow up action are among those given to students under the scheme.

The government has earmarked Rs 504 lakh for the current financial year for effective implementation of the scheme, the spokesman said.

The cabinet also gave its nod for constitution of the Delhi Commission for Safai Karamcharis. A bill in this regard would be introduced in the Assembly.

The Commission would act as a grievance redressal forum.

Besides issues relating to service matters, it would also ensure proper and just implementation of various acts and orders for safeguarding the interests of Safai Karamcharis.

The Commission would consist of a Chairperson and two part time members. The Chairperson would be of the rank of Chief Secretary of Delhi.
