Mastermind of the May-June Aligarh riots nabbed from CP
New Delhi, Aug 7 (UNI) The Delhi Police have arrested from the Connaught place area Wasim Akhtar, a member of the Yasin Adnan gang who masterminded the May-June Aligarh riots and wanted in connection with many kidnappings-for-ransom and three daylight murders in Aligarh.
Twenty six-year-old Wasim was arrested by a team of the Crime Branch of Delhi police from near Odeon cinema in Connaught Place yesterday evening, police said.
Police said Wasim was involved in three murders of businessmen in Aligarh, which resulted in communal riots there in May-June, in which 22 people died.
He was also wanted in connection with many kidnapping-for-ransom cases, including a sensational kidnapping of a doctor in June.
A desperate criminal, Wasim begun his criminal activities in January 2003.
Investigation is on to ascertain Wasim's link with ISI of Pakistan and SIMI.
