Mahindra launches scheme to tap talent at under-16 level in Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 7 (UNI) Mahindra and Mahindra have come up with a scheme to develop football in the state by targeting under-16 boys.

Speaking after the signing of a contract between Tech Mahindra and UEFA in which Tech Mahindra will provide Mobile Content Hosting and Delivery Platform to UEFA, Mahindra and Mahindra senior advisor Alan Durante told reporters here today that the company would appoint four experts to select the cream of players from the under-16 school league and then give them advanced training.

These players would also form the core of the Mahindra under-19 team and would be given a platform to show their skills in the junior national league. Their performance in this would then open up opportunities for these players to get into the top clubs of the country, he added.

Durante said, ''This was being done as we have seen there are about 100 players who are rotated around by the top clubs and new talent is not being thrown up.'' ''This scheme would give a chance for the new talent and also see that Indian football instead of langusihing would one day be able to build a team which can take on the world at the World Cup or other top level tourneys.'' For this, Tech Mahindra would provide an initial investment of Rs two lakh. The junior players chosen would apart from training also get a stipend, he added.
