Injured Roddick withdraws from Toronto Masters
TORONTO, Aug 6 (Reuters) Andy Roddick withdrew from the Toronto Masters today after failing to recover from a muscle strain on his left side.
Following a practice session, Roddick and his trainer determined that the strain was still affecting the American's game.
''Andy and athletic trainer Doug Spreen determined that Andy was still not fit to compete without risking further injury,'' read a statement issued on the former world number one's Web site.
Roddick withdraw from this week's tournament in Washington after suffering the injury in the closing stages of a second-round victory in Los Angeles over American Scott Oudsema.
He as unable to play in a quarter-final the next day against Russian Dmitry Tursunov.
''Unfortunately, my side strain is still preventing me from being able to play matches,'' Roddick said in a media release. ''I will be working hard this week and am optimistic to be back in top form for the US Open.'' REUTERS DH RK0259
