Injured former Minister operated on; out of danger

Tuticorin, Aug 7 (UNI) Former Union Minister and Congress MP from Tirunelveli, Dhanushkodi Adithan, who suffered multiple fractures in a car accident, was operated on last night and is stated to be out of danger.

According to doctors attending on him at a private hospital in the town, a fractured part of his right arm was removed.

A team of medical specialists, including those from Madurai, conducted a six-hour-long operation to rectify fractures in the hip and the limbs. Internal bleeding had stopped and his heartbeat and other parameters were normal after the surgery, hospital sources said.

While Mr Adithan's wife, Indira Devi died, his daughter, D Cynthia, a family friend and the car driver were injured in the accident, which occurred when they were proceeding to Tuticorin from Tirunelveli. The vehicle's front tyre burst and overturned near Vagaikulam, adjoining Tuticorin airport, police said.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Kumari Anandhan, who was proceeding by train to visit the ailing party MP, fell ill en route at Dindigul and is being treated at a corporate hospital there.

According to hospital sources, his condition was stable.
