HC adjourns Madhani bail plea to Aug 11

Chennai, Aug 7 (UNI) Madras High Court today adjourned further hearing on the bail petition filed by Abdul Nasser Madhani, leader of the People Democratic Party, under arrest in connection with the Coimbatore serial bomb blasts case, to August 11.

Mr Justice M Thanickachallam adjourned the hearing following a plea from Public Prosecutor Raja Elango to this effect.

When the bail application filed by Madhani came up for hearing, Senior Counsel N Natarajan submitted that petitioner was in prison since 1998 and his health was detoriating. ''He needs proper medical care, and requires treatment from hospitals outside for his artificial limb. So, he might be enlarged on bail,'' Mr Natarajan added.

Mr Raja Elango submitted that on, humanitarian grounds, the state government was providing all medical treatment to Madhani in the prison. A team of doctors visited the prison last week and examined him. The team felt there was no necessity to shift Madhani from prison to a hospital for medical treatment. A detailed counter would be filed to this effect, Mr Elango said and sought time.

Following this, the judge adjourned further hearing to August 11.
