Haryana govt for Centre's nod on imposing ban on soft drinks

Bazpur, Uttaranchal, Aug 7 (UNI) The Haryana government would wait for the Union government's decision before banning the sale of any specific brand of soft drink, found with higher levels of pesticides, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said today.

''The decision to ban the sale of particular brands of soft drinks in the state or not, following the findings by the Centre for Science and Environment, would depend on the decision taken by the Central government,'' he said while talking to mediapersons at Badripur village near here.

He, however, made it clear, '' if proved that anything is harmful for the consumption of human beings, it will certainly be banned''.

While pointing out that there were conflicting reports regarding the presence or levels of pesticides in soft drinks, the Chief Minister said a decision to ban a particular soft drink could be taken only after indepth study of the objectionable contents.
