Even after a year, police still clueless about rape accused IG
Ranchi, Aug 7 (UNI) Suspended Jharkhand Inspector General of Police P S Natarajan, who has been eluding the police dragnet for the past one year, today also failed to appear before the Court.
Till date, police remained clueless about the absconding cop's whereabouts after Natarajan went underground following a sting operation by a local TV channel on July 31 last year showing him in a compromising position with a tribal woman. He was suspended after two days.
Mr Natarajan's counsel on July 26 this year assured that his client would appear before the Court within ten days and today was no exception.
Meanwhile, senior Superintendent of Police R K Mallick said the police had no clue about the suspended IG.
On August two last year, a rape case was framed against Natarajan in Lower Bazar police station here.
The victim alleged that the former IG had lured her with a government job.
In this regard a woman teacher and two others were also framed.
Since then police had been carrying out raids at various places including his house at Tupudana in the capital but to no avail.
However, the SSP today refused to term it as failure and asserted that if he continued to remain underground the police would adopt a new strategy to catch him.
The court had announced him as an absconder, Mr Mallik said adding it was not easy to catch a person from among one crore population.
