BCCI yet to decide on number of probables for Champions Trophy

Bangalore, Aug 9 (UNI) BCCI Selection Committee Chairman Kiran More today said the number of probables to be selected for the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy has not yet been decided.

In a chat with reporters at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), More said the number of probables for the 'Mini World Cup' would be decided on Wednesday when the Selection Committee sits with coach Greg Chappell and captain Rahul Dravid to pick the squad.

Board Secretary Niranjan Shah had said in Mumbai yesterday that Chappell and Dravid were of the view that 20 to 22 probables could be picked for the eight-nation tournament to be held in October-November, instead of 30 decided earlier.

Meanwhile, More evaded a direct answer when his attention was drawn to former coach John wright's claims, in the Kiwi's book ''Indian Summers', that the selectors put regional interest ahead of that of the nation.

''I have not read the book and so I can't comment,'' he said.

The other members of the Selection Committee -- Bhupinder Singh (North), Ranjib Biswal (East), Sanjay Jagdale (Central) and V B Chandrasekhar (South) -- are expected to arrive here on Wednesday morning.

On his arrival, More drove straight down to the NCA and watched Team India players having a rigorous practice session at the Cricket Skill Camp, which began today.

The four-day camp was being held to prepare the team for the tri-series to be held in Sri Lanka from August 14 with South Africa being the third team.

Speculations were rife that former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly could find a place in the probables list.
