Army called to restore link of highways

Imphal, Aug 7 (UNI) The Army was called to restore link after mudslides blocked NH 53 , Imphal-Jiribam sector, triggered by monsoon rains in Manipur.

The rains also disrupted link in many other parts of the state which affected movement of people.

The Army was deployed at Nungba and Tamenglong to clear debris on the NH 53.

Meanwhile, the state government has also decided to hand over the works of three national highways to the Border Roads Organisation.

Of the three national highways, only NH 39 was worthy for vehicular traffic and the rest- NH 53 and NH 150 were unsafe for heavy vehicles.
