Army called in to restore link of highways

Imphal, Aug 7 (UNI) The Army was called in to restore traffic after mudslides blocked NH 53, Imphal-Jiribam sector, triggered by monsoon rains in Manipur.

The rains also disrupted link in many other parts of the state which affected movement of people.

Army was deployed at Nungba and Tamenglong to clear debris on the NH 53.

Meanwhile, the state government has also decided to hand over the works of three national highways to the Border Roads Organisation.

Of the three national highways, only NH 39 was used for vehicular traffic and NH 53 and NH 150 were declared unsafe for heavy vehicles.
