AP-born cancer expert chosen among the best in US
New York, Aug 7 (UNI) An Indo-American has been chosen as a top doctor in the United States in a survey conducted among 100,000 cancer specialists.
The survey was conducted by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd, a well known body that publishes a list of America's Top Doctors. The name of Dr Dattatreyudu Nori figures on the list.
The criteria for selection were excellence in patient care, education, residency, board certification, fellowships, professional reputation, research, academic stature, hospital and medical school appointments.
Professor and head of Radiation Oncology Department at the New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill CornellMedical, Dr Nori is also a fellow of the American College of Radiology and American College of Radiation Oncology. He is also the former President of the American Brachytherapy Society, and is currently a member of several national and international oncology societies.
He is the associate editor of three oncology journals. He has published four books and more than 200 scientific articles. He has delivered several prestigious lectures such as the Probstein Oncology lecture at Washington University. He is a visiting faculty to many universities.
Among his other noteworthy accomplishments are, gold medal from the Indian Medical Association, the Excelcier Award by the Network of Indian Professionals in the US, "Tribute to Life" by the American Cancer Society. Nargis Dutt Cancer Foundation and the Federation of Indian Associations have also honored him.
Dr Nori has provided technical and scientific help to many cancer centers in India. He is also the founding member of Indo-American Cancer Institute and Research Center, a state-of-the-art cancer research institute.
In addition, Dr Nori is a consultant to the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency, advising on the formulation of guidelines for the treatment of cancer in developing countries.
Dr Nori did his undergraduate programme from Kurnool Medical College and postgraduation from Osmania University, Hyderabad.
He then joined the staff of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where he became chief of the Brachytherapy Service before accepting the current position as chairman of Radiation Oncology at Cornell.
