Anti-quota brigade burn Sonia in effigy
Kanpur, Aug 7 (UNI) The anti-reservation brigade, comprising local advocates, today burnt Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in effigy.
The protest comes on eve of the 'Navnirman Rally' to be addressed by Sonia here tomorrow.
Earlier, a meeting was organised under the banner of Youth for Equality and later the lawyers burnt the effigy in front of the court premises. They also chanted anti-quota slogans.
Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) students sent a facsimile to the Congress chief, requesting for a meeting.
A similar message was also forwarded to union minister of state for home and senior Congressman Sri Prakash Jaiswal.
The IIT-K student reiterated that reservation was detrimental for higher education, and it would be opposed at every level.
On Saturday, students of the premier institute were taken under custody, while forming an anti-quota human chain.
