Voters boycott Panchayat polls: protest change in symbols
Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 6 (UNI) Voters of Govindapalli village in K Samudram mandal of this district boycotted the sarpanch elections, protesting against change of symbols allotted to candidates in the third and final phase of elections.
According to police, while people of Govindapalli boycott the elections on the issue of printing of wrong symbols on the ballot paper, voters in Kuchuvaripalli under Yellandoor mandal in this district boycotted the polls following clashes between groups of two contesting candidates.
Tight security arrangements were made in this faction-ridden district. Grey Hounds, the elite anti-naxal force were also deployed in places where there was influence of Naxals.
