Tripura govt tightens security mesures before Independence day

Agartala, Aug 6 (UNI) The Tripura government has tighetened security throughout the state in view of the Independence day celebrations.

A police official told UNI here today that special security measures have been taken throughout the state, including all the vulnerable points, after the Mumbai serial blasts on July 11 and keeping in view of the Independence day.

Every year the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) call upon the people to boycot the Independence day.

''We have no report so far about whether the under ground forces have called for a boycot on the occasion,'' said the officer adding.

''But security has been beefed up throughout the state to foil the militants' attempt to disturb peace.'' He further said,''The banned insurgent outfits are not very strong now, so they could not succeed in calling for such boycott, even in the most interior areas.'' Special anti-insurgency operations were also on to flush out the rebels from hideouts in the remote areas.

All border outposts, along the Indo-Bangla border with Tripura, were alerted.

Police stations and outposts throughout the state had been put on alert to meet any kind of eventuality by any militant group.

Security has been stepped up in all VIP, areas airport, markets, thickly populated areas and bus stands.

Security forces would also maintain strict vigil on all important roads, including the National Highway No 44, so that militants could not cause any kind of disruption on the movement of vehicles, the sources added.
