Seven killed and thousands marooned in Ladkh region
Srinagar, Aug 6 (UNI) Amry was called out to help civilian administration in Leh and Kargil districts where seven people were killed and more then 25 villages were submerged due to flood following heavy rains during past three days.
Official sources said seven persons, including two children, were killed in flash floods and house collapse in the region.
They said more than 25 villages in both the districts were submerged as a number of rivers and other tributaries were flowing above the danger mark.
However, army has rescued more then 500 marooned people from the affected areas.
Meanwhile a deputation from Leh and Kargil called on Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad here this evening and apprised him about the loss of life and property and damage caused to houses, infrastructure like roads, bridges and irrigations Kuhls besides standing crops in both the districts due to cloud burst and heavy rains.
The deputation was led by Power Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora and social Welfare Minister Haji Nissar Ali.
Mr P Namgyal MLC and LAHDC councilor Rigzin Spalbar were also members of the deputaiton.
The deputation urged the Chief Minister to visit both the districts at the earliest to personally assess situation arising out of cloud burst and heavy rains in the area.
Mr Azad assured the deputation that he would soon visit Leh and Kargil districts to take stock of the loss of life and property and damage of crops and infrastructure.
