Rivers in spate as rains continue to lash Kolhapur
Kolhapur, Aug 6 (UNI) Panchganga river is in spate for the fourth time in the current monsoon, following incessant rains lashing the district since yesterday.
The district administration has alerted villages along the bank of Panchganga river about the swelling of the river and rise in water level after water was released from the dam, spokesman added.
The river water level at Rajaram weir near Kasaba-Bavada suburb is flowing at the height of 38.5 feet which is closer to the danger mark of 39 feet, sources informed.
Following heavy rainfall in the catchment area, there has been a slight increase in the discharge of water from dams, sources said adding, 38,194 cusecs of water is being released from Koyna dam, 3,974 cusecs from Warna dam, 7,600 cusecs from Radhanagari dam and 10,600 cusecs from Dudhaganga dam.
A total of 895.8 mm rainfall was recorded in the district during the last 24 hours ending this morning while, Gaganbavada tehsil recorded the highest rainfall of 208 mm followed by Radhanagari with 126 mm rainfall during same period, district collector office spokesman said.
Heavy rainfall at the catchment areas of various dams has forced the irrigation department to increase the water charges in the river beds from dams, irrigation department sources said.
Life is limping back to normalcy in flood-affected Shirol thesil.
However, four villages are still marooned, sources added.
