Rajnath Singh to stage dharna in Vidarbha

New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party President Rajnath Singh will stage a dharna at Yeotmal in Vidarbha region of Maharastra along with 25,000 farmers this Wednesday in protest against the ''failed PM package'' declared last month for the cotton farmers who are committing suicide in the state.

Maharshtra BJP leader Gopinath Munde, and State President Nitin Gadkari along with all the MPs and MLAs from the state will join the agitation, BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said.

He said more than 90 farmers have committed suicide in the last one month and the PM's package which revolved around waiver of interest and rechedulement of loans has not helped farmers directly.

''This package in effect has helped the co-operative banks held by NCP leaders to fill their coffers. The hollowness of the much hyped package has actually witnessed rising anger and suicides'', Mr Javadekar said here in a statement.

He said that the UPA government instead of protecting the farmers has lowered the import duty on cotton resulting in large scale imports putting further downwards pressure on cotton prices. ''This is the main reason of present crisis'', the BJP speksperson said.
