Police open fire at five places to control mobs in Panchayat polls

Hyderabad, Aug 6 (UNI) Police opened fire in air to disperse unruly mobs as violence marred the third phase of Panchayat polls today.

According to police, one incident of bomb hurling was also reported at Miryampalli village in Prakasham district.

Police opened fire at Saidapur village in Kadapa district, Singannapalli village in Kurnool district, Miryampalli village in Prakasham district and S Yanam and vasalatippa villages in East Godavari district.

The release said 43,208 members of civil force, 8,754 armed police, 2,100 Andhra Pradesh Special Police and 990 personnel from the Armed Police of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were deployed for bandobust duties.

About 1,872 mobile parties, 660 striking forces, 255 special striking forces were also deployed for bandobust, the release said.

The release said barring these incidents, polling went off peacefully.
