MP Govt halts sale of cold drinks
Bhopal, Aug 6 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Government has halted the sale of cold drinks in government offices and canteens of educational institutes with immediate effect.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan told reporters here that the decision was taken in the wake of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) claim that its lab tests showed pesticide residues in all cold drinks.
He said the government had taken the decision keeping public health in mind.
Several organisations and youths had held demonstrations across the state and demanded stopping the sale of cold drinks in view of the report.
After sale of cold drinks were stopped in BJP-ruled Gujarat and Rajasthan, the sale of cold drinks was likely to be stopped in Madhya Pradesh.
