lashkar ultras involved in militant attack on BJP rally arrested
Jammu, Aug 6 (UNI) Five hardcore ultras of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba, including a chowkidar of a top hurriyat leader Sanullah Tantray, have been arrested for their involvement in six militant attacks in Doda city, including grenade attack on BJP rally at Doda bus stand.
Inspector General of Police (IG) Dr S.P. Vaid told in a press conference today that Tantre's chowkidar Mohammad qasim was a hardcore militant and had been working for Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) since long.
Qasim and his four associates namely Javed Ahmad, Mohammad Hussain code name Imam, Javed Iqbal and Riaz Ahmed have been arrested but three others --identified as Irshad Ahmed, Gul Nawaz caste Mangnoo tailor and Javed Sofi-- were absconding, the IG said.
The mystery of series of grenade attacks in city during past three months has been successfully solved by the Doda police after arrest of Qasim and four other militants, he claimed.
These blasts, five in toto, left 2 persons killed and 69 injured, including BJP leader Swami Raj Sharma and eight J K police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans.
In reply of a query, the IG admitted that despite strict vigil on the Line of Control (LoC), around 60 militants from Pakistan succeeded to infiltrate into Indian territory via border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
''Yes despite tight vigil and security arrangements on the LoC and border areas, militants are continuously trying to infiltrate and they have also been killed by the security forces,'' he said.
He said jawans of Indian army, para military forces and Jammu and Kashmir police were restricting the incidents of infiltration.
