IMC restricts construction of high rise buildings

Imphal, Aug 6 (UNI) The Imphal Municipal council(IMC) has notified six sensitive zones where construction work will have to be done with its permission.

The Executive Officer of IMC,Noren said the areas were identified by the state government for checking and restricting the construction of high rise buildings in the hyper-sensitive security areas in Imphal for the purpose of Section 129-C of the Manipur Municipalities Act, 1994 as amended by the Manipur Municipalities (2nd Amendment) Act, 2004.

The sensitive zone included the Raj Bhawan area and the areas where the Chief Minister and other Cabinet ministers reside.

The other sensitive areas included Kangla, the market areas, national highway no 39 and the Govindajee temple, Imphal.

Any structure or building under construction or already constructed in violation of Section 129-C of Manipur Municipalities Act, 1994 as amended by the Manipur Municipalities (2nd Amendment) Act, 2004 and Imphal Municipality Building Bye-Laws, 1969 shall be removed/altered/demolished as the case may be, the CEO said.

He further said no building within the Imphal Municipal Areas should be constructed unless prior approval was obtained from Imphal Municipal Council.
