Gandhian Mahadevi Taayi passes away

Bangalore, Aug 6 (UNI) Veteran freedom fighter and Gandhian Mahadevi Taayi, elder sister of late Karnataka Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde, died of old age here today.

She was 101.

Widowed at a tender age, Taayi had gone to prison six times during the freedom movement.

A staunch follower of Vinobha Bhave, Ms Taayi was running a old age home in the city.

The mortal remains of Ms Taayi was consigned to flames this afternoon.
