Elephants engaged to tame a maneater tiger
Lucknow, Aug 6 (UNI) In an effort to tame a man-eater tiger in the Lakhimpur district, three female elephants have been pressed into service to hunt for the ageing tiger in the thick jungle of Dudhwa National Park after it was said he had killed at least four people in the recent past.
The three tuskers were being used by the forest department to carry out a hunt for the jungle- king, which has become a man eater.
The tiger's attack in the villages adjacent to Dudhwa National Park began on May 21 last sparking of fear and anger among people.
''We were scouting every nook and cranny of the jungle but there is no trace of the tiger as yet,''P P Sing said.
Around 420 km by road from Delhi and 260 km from Lucknow, Dudhwa National Park covers an area of 490 sq km on the Indo-Nepal border.
Besides massive grassland and swamps,the Park is famous for Sal (Shorea robusta) forests .
