Centre to buy more NE industrial products

Aizawl, Aug 6 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Commerce has decided to enhance the Centre's purchase of industrial products from the NE region.

The decision was aimed to encourage active entrepreneurs in the NE states, who have long felt the need of support from the Centre.

Official sources here today informed that the central government wanted to increase purchase of all industrial products from across the NE states from the current Rs 100 crore to about Rs 500 crore.

The new change will not be a posibility without the creation of a separate ministry -- Department of North-East region, which will take up these issues with the Centre.

Apart from this, Federation of Industries and Commerce of the North East Region (FINER) has already appealed to the Commerce Ministry to have a separate price system for all the industrial products of the region.

Separate pricing is required as transportation and material cost is comparatively high in the region, the sources said, adding the Union Ministry has responded positively on the matter.

It is believed that increase in purchase of industrial products and their price tag change would surely boost the industries of the region, the sources said.
