BJP demands resignation of Ibobi government
Imphal, Aug 6 (UNI) The Manipur BJP unit today demanded the resignation of the Okram Ibobi government alleging very poor Public Distribution System in the state.
T H Gogonbihari, Chairman, media cell said the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government of Manipur announced the constitution of a State Level Vigilance Committee headed by Principal Secretary A E Ahmed, who is in-charge of food and civil supplies department to look into the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Gogonbihari alleged Okram Ibobi Singh was waking up at the fag end of his term as the Assembly election was approaching.
People had been demanding PDS items like rice, sugar and kerosene since the beginning of his term and there had been a lot of hue and cry in the state assembly regarding this.
Five tribal organisations, including the Movement for Tribal peoples rights, Zeliangrong Youth Front, All College Tribal Vigilance Forum and Sadar Hills Youth Union had called a hill bandh yesterday, he said.
Ibobi Singh was questioned as to why he had changed the minister of Food and Civil Supplies Department thrice.
''Even smuggling of fertiliser to Myanmar by bigwigs were reported while our farmers are craving for it,'' he said.
People of Manipur had been striving and shouting hoarse for proper distribution of food, which the government had failed to provide, he added.
