Army called in to rescue flood-hit in Nanded, Parbhani and Hingoli

Mumbai, Aug 6 (UNI) Eight Army companies along with five choppers have been pressed into service in flood affected districts of Nanded, Parbhani and Hingoli for immediate search and rescue operations, said Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh here today.

Talking to mediapersons, the Chief Mininster stated that one lakh people have been evacuated from Naded and other severly affected areas of the state.

He also informed that telecommunication links between Nanded-Aurangabad, Naded-Nagpur and Nanded-Hyderabad have been disrupted completly.

Mr Deshmukh said, directions have been issued to all 'Guardian' ministers to remain present in their respective constituencies to facilitate relief operations with the local machinery.

Meanwhile, Godavari river gone up three meters above danger mark (357 mt) affecting 4,000 people who were later rescued and shifted to safer locations.
