AP Govt to send advance memorandum to Centre
Hyderabad, Aug 6 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government today announced that it had decided to send an advance memorandum to Centre tomorrow on the flood situation in the state.
Speaking to newspersons here, after the two-day visit to six flood-hit districts in the state, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said 63 people died due to heavy rains and flood in Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari and Khammam districts.
He said the state would explore the possibility of getting funds under Centre's Permanent Infrastructure Reconstruction Project to modernise drains and canals in Godavari delta, to construct river bunds in the state and to redesign Visakhapatnam airport, which was facing problems frequently due to floods.
He said 11 tribals were killed in Kodipunju village of Aruku valley in Visakhapatnam in a landslide while 12 triblals were killed in another landslide in Gumalakshmipuram village of Anakapalli 12.
In Gummalakshmipuram village, seven bodies were yet to be recovered.
He said in Araku valley, the government would construct houses for the families, at a cost of Rs 40,000 each.
Every family would also get Rs 60,000 towards income generation asset and two acre land under land purchase scheme.
The aged and widows would get pensions under Indiramma scheme.
