Itanagar, Aug 5: Teachers must inculcate sense of discipline and dedication to bring about positive change in quality of education, said Education Minister Chowna Mein.
The Minister was addressing the teachers of both Anjaw and Lohit district in the valedictory function of science Teacher's training for quality development at Tezu yesterday, said official sources here today.
Highlighting major objectives of the Sarva Shikhsa Abhiyan (SSA) programme, he called upon SSA teachers to dedicate themselves to their service in order to realise the goal of providing compulsory education to all children by 2010.
Unless we are sincere and dedicated, we will be left far behind," he cautioned saying the state government would soon come out with certain radical policy decisions to strengthen the performance in this sector.
Acknowledging poor academic results, especially in science and Mathematics, Mr Mein also indicated that a sound policy guideline for recruiting adequate science teachers would be introduced by the state government.
Emphasising on strengthening the Village Education Committee, citing examples of Nagaland, where rural education is effectively looked after by village communities, the Minister further asked all principals and headmasters of both districts to get computer education started immediately by utilising available resources.
Appreciating both Education Department and District Administration for organising the three-day-long training programme, Mr Mein also expressed gratitude to the resource persons from Homi Bhabha centre for science Education.
