Self sufficiency in egg and meat in two years: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 5 (UNI) Kerala Food and Civil Supplies and Animal Husbandary Minister C Divakaran today said the government's aim was to achieve self-sufficiency to the production of egg and meat in two years.

Inauaugurating the marketing outlets of Swarnajayanthi Grama Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) schemes of the state Paultry Development Corporation here, he said thousands of people were entering to this field and the government would give all encouragements and guidance them to achieve the goal.

The government had also taken steps to make available egg and meat sufficiently to the people in the state, he added.

Mr Divakaran said steps should be taken for home delivery of quality chicken meat to consumers and through this system a large number of youths would get employment.

The government was also seriously considering to distribute egg and meat to government servants through a ''credit card system.'' The new project would help to lead the villages in the state to self-sufficiency, he added.
