RasGas II to sell 2.5 MTPA of LNG to Petronet
Dubai, Aug 5 (UNI) Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Ltd II (RasGas II) has announced plans to implement sale of 2.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG to India's Petronet LNG.
This would complete a 7.5 MTPA sales agreement following a 'side letter' deal on Thursday, amending the existing sales and purchase agreement (SPA) to implement the sale of the remaining 2.5 MTPA.
The delivery of the 2.5 MTPA is expected to start in 2009.
India's Petroleum Secretary M S Srinivasan had said, ''Petronet had urged RasGas II for early delivery of 2.5 mtpa of LNG, which was part of the SPA covering 7.5 mtpa.'' He had also revealed that India wanted an additional 2.5 mtpa of LNG from RasGas II, making it 10 mtpa of LNG.
According to the original SPA, while five mtpa of LNG was required for Petronet's Dahej terminal in Gujarat, the remaining 2.5 mtpa was needed for the upcoming Kochi LNG terminal in Kerala.
Mr Srinivasan had disclosed that this plan was changed and the whole of 7.5 mtpa of LNG was now needed for the Dahej terminal.
