Rains in AP likely to abate after 24 hours

Hyderabad, Aug 5 (UNI) The southwest monsoon was vigorous over the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh as yesterday's deep Depression over south Chhattisgarh weakened and lay at about 100 km east-southeast of Nagpur this morning.

The system was likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and weaken gradually, bringing respite to rain-ravaged state, Hyderabad Metorological Centre M Satya Kumar told UNI.

However, heavy to very heavy rain was likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in the districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Warangal of Telangana during next 24 hours, he said adding that the state capital would receive intermittent rain, at times heavy.

Moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers were likely to occur at most places over Telangana and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema in the next 48 hours.

Rain occurred at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and at isolated places over Rayalaseema in the last 24 hours.

Kaleswaram recorded a very heavy rainfall of 63 cm, followed by Utnoor 31 cm, Kamareddy 28 cm, Nizamabad and Chinnoor 23 cm each, Adilabad, Raagundam, Sircilla 22 cm each and Manthani and Metpalli 21 cm each, Huzurabad, Karimnagar, Nizamsagar, Sirpur 20 cm each and Ramayampet and Sultanabad 19 cm each.

Other chief amount of rainfall recorded are Armoor, Asifabad, Mulugu 18 cm each, Banswada, Bodhan, Navipet, Sriramsagar Mudhol 17 cm each, Perur 16 cm each, Medak, Dubbak, Jagitiyal, Parkal 15 cm each, Hanamakonda, Boath 14 cm each, Jangaon, Mahabubabad and Narsampet, Nirmal 13 cm each and Eturnagaram, Khanapur, Madnoor and Venkatapuram 12 cm each.

Bheemgal, Bhongir, Vikarabad and Yellandu recorded 11 cm each rainfall followed by Hakimpet Airport, Hyderabad Airport, Narayanakhed and Sangareddy 10 cm each, Medchal and Suryapet 9 cm each each, Bhadrachlam 8 cm and Khammam, Kunavaram, Ramannapet and Tiruvuru 7 cm each.
