PM assures all assistance for the release of Indians

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 5 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today assured Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan that all assistance would be made available for the release of Indians lodged in Oman jails.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, he said the Indian Embassy to Macust was constantly touching with the Oman officials in this regard.

Out of the 1,914 Indians, 884 people were released from the jail till July 27. Of this 641 were brought to the country and about 389 were still in jails.

The PM also said all steps were taken to ensure all facilities to them in the camp and also taking efforts for their early release.

Mr Achuthanandan had sent a letter to Prime Minister seeking immediate steps for the release of the Keralites, a release said here.
