Medical departments to be merged in Nagaland

Kohima, Aug 5: Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister T M Lotha has announced the approval of the State Cabinet to merge the Directorates of the Medical Services and Health Services into Directorate of Health and Family Welfare.

Addressing newsmen here yesterday, the Minister said with this amalgamation, the medical personnel would have proper service rules and the new Directorate would ensure proper functioning of the health system in the state.

He said a series of discussions, protests and agitations by doctors demanding proper service rules had led to the amalgamation.

Since the bifurcation of the departments in 1992, the doctors had been demanding the merger.
