Loss of life, kind in East Godavari
Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 5 (UNI) East Godavari District Collector M Subramanyam today said the rain related loss in the district, was estimated above two crore, as per the preliminary survey.
He said seven persons were killed in separate incidents of tree falling, electrocution and wall collapse. Besides, 25,000 hectares of paddy and 1,550 hectares of horticulture were submerged.
Of the 1,094 houses damaged, 281 houses were completely damaged and 813 partially, he said.
Mr Subramaniam said relief camps were set up in Kakinada rural, Athreyapuram, Mummidivaram, Pitapuram and Samrlakote mandals.
Due to heavy gale, plantain and papaya in 50 hectares and vegetables in 500 hectares were damaged and loss was estimated at Rs 115 lakh.
Stating that the whereabouts of 43 fishermen who ventured into fishing was yet to be known, he said the material loss to fishermen community, for the damage of net and boats, was estimated at Rs 17.75 lakh.
In Devipatnam mandal, 16 villages were submerged and five of them were cut off from other areas. Food packets were dropped to the people. Six villages in Allavaram, Athreyapuram, Sakkinetipalli, and Mummidivaram were submerged, he said.
As many as 3,950 people were shifted to various relief camps, Mr Subramanyam added.
