Inflows to rise further at Prakasam Barrage
Vijayawada, Aug 5 (UNI) Following the increase in discharge of flood water from Jurala to Nagarjunasagar reservoir since afternoon, the inflows to Prakasam Barrage will increase in the next 24 hours threatening inundation of low lying areas in the city.
Addressing a press conference here this evening, Krishna District Joint Collector S Suresh Kumar and Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner Natrajan Gulzar said as the Nagarjunasagar had a storage cushion of 20 to 25 feet, the discharge to Praksam Barrage was brought down to 1.75 lakh cuses in the morning.

The Munneru flood waters which overflowed on the NH 9 at Itavaram upto five feet in the morning steadily came down to three feet now.
Mr Kumar said irrigation officials would issue a second flood warning once the discharge from the Barrage crosses 5.5 lakh cusecs.
He said the level at the Barrage was 14.4 feet this evening.
Mr Gulzar said so far 7,162 persons were evacuated from the low lying areas of downstream of Prakasam Barrage and housed in ten relief camps.
