IG sitting on 'dharna' alleging assault by seer's armed aides
Allahabad, Aug 5 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Inspector General (IG) of Government Railway Police (GRP) R N Singh today sat on a 'dhrana' in front of Bandhava Hanuman temple here near 'Sangam'.
Mr Singh alleged that armed men of Narendra Giri, the mahant of Baghambari Gaddi Mutt assaulted him near the temple.
The IG had visited the temple this morning, where the incident allegedly took place. But, the seer has denied the incident.
The mahant and the IG are also involved in a dispute pertining to land of the Mutt.
In a news conference recently, the seer had alleged Mr Singh was pressing him to get registry of a land in the name of his wife. The charge was, however, denied by Mr Singh.
Baghambari Mutt, the oldest mutt of the city, is situated in Allahpur area and owns vast land.
Locals alleged the seer had recently sold some land of the Mutt.
Situated near 'Sangam', the Lord Hanuman temple is much reverred in Allahabad and hundreds of devotees visit it daily.
Meanwhile, senior district and police officials had reached the spot. The IG wants an FIR to be lodged against the seer, but the police are demanding a written complaint from him.
Mr Singh also refused to heed the advice of officials to end his 'dharna'.
