Health Ministry should formulate Drug Policy : Rajnath

New Delhi, Aug 5 (UNI) BJP President Rajnath Singh today said the Drug Policy should be formulated by Health Ministry, instead of Chemical and Fertiliser Ministry.

Addressing the National Executive of the party's Doctor Cell, he expressed surprise that the Drug Policy was being formulated by the Chemical and Fertiliser Ministry, and said the Department of Health and Family Welfare shold be solely responsible for formulating and implementing National Drug policy.

Speaking on reservation issue, he said backward and economically weaker sections should be brought forward and helped but at least in medical profession this issue should not be used for vote bank politics. He described the ussue of the removal and later reinstatement of AIIMS Director P Venugopal as ''shameful interference of government''.

He asked doctors to raise the issue of opening six new AIIMS and upgradation of existing six hospitals to the level of AIIMS as proposed by the previous NDA government.

The BJP President said India had made remarkable progress in medical science and surgery and was even doing better than UK or US for which credit should go to the country's doctors.

In a resolution adopted at the executive, the party called for providing universal insurance and medical cover to each and every citizen of the country.

the resolution also stressed the need for Indian Medical service, saying such a service was overdue and the government should also create a separate cadre of administrative medical persons as IMS to effectively run the health infrastructure in the country.
