HASSU calls for 12-hr bandh on Monday

Kohima, Aug 5 (UNI) The Highway Area Sumi Students Union(HASSU) has called a 12-hour National Highway bandh on Monday in support of their three-point charter of demands.

In a release here today, the HASSU alleged that a minister of Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) had deprived a meritorious JEE candidate in order to accommodate his son, who did not even qualify in the exam.

It also alleged that nepotism and favouritism prevailed during the selection of candidates appearing in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

HASSU said state Education Minister Imkong L Imchen's son ranked 627 whereas the deprived candidate ranked 464 and hence the Board should select the latter one on the basis of merit.

The other two demands were removal of Imkong L Imchen from the Cabinet for his ''unconstitutional'' activities and ''misuse'' of public office along with an unconditional apology by the minister to the deprived students.

However, the Union said that police, military, paramilitary, medical services and media are exempted from the purview of the bandh.
